If your hotel or apartment is near Haidian, Shangdi, Xierqi, Wudaokou, Zhongguancun, or the north side of the city, Qinghe can be easier than crossing Beijing to another rail hub.

The same official page lists Badaling Great Wall Station as one of the passenger stations on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway. That makes Qinghe a logical starting point for Badaling, especially for north-side Beijing stays.

The route is most useful when you want Badaling specifically. Badaling is famous, heavily developed, and easier to organize by rail than many other Great Wall sections. It is not always the calmest first Wall experience for foreign independent travelers, so compare Badaling vs Mutianyu before choosing. If your priority is the easiest rail link, Badaling has a clear advantage. If your priority is scenery and a less tour-group-heavy feel, Mutianyu may still be better.

How to Plan the Train Route

Do not build the day around an assumed timetable. Check current trains on China Railway’s official 12306 system before finalizing the plan. Search for Qinghe or Beijingbei departures to Badaling Great Wall Station, then check return options before you buy the outbound ticket. The return train matters as much as the morning train because Badaling can become tiring after several hours of stairs, crowds, and station movement.

Badaling is a developed attraction, but the final approach can still take time, especially when trains arrive with many visitors at once.

It also describes a ticketing platform that allows foreign visitors to purchase tickets with passports and Foreign Permanent Resident ID Permits.   • Before leaving: check 12306 for both outbound and return trains, then confirm scenic-area ticketing and weather.
  • At Qinghe: arrive early enough for station entry, ID checks, and waiting-room navigation.
  • At Badaling: follow official signs from Badaling Great Wall Station to the scenic-area entrance flow.
  • On the Wall: choose a manageable walking section instead of trying to cover everything.
  • Before return: leave the Wall with enough buffer for the station, security, and any crowd delays.

When This Route Is Better Than a Direct Car

Choose the Qinghe train route if you are comfortable with Chinese rail stations, can get suitable train tickets, and are staying closer to north Beijing than to the city center. It can be more predictable than road traffic and more interesting for travelers who enjoy high-speed rail. It also keeps the route focused: station, train, Badaling, return.

Choose a direct car instead if you are traveling with small children, older relatives, mobility concerns, large luggage, or a group that does not want station stress. A car is also simpler if return trains are inconvenient. Crowds are the other practical issue. Badaling is one of the most famous Great Wall sections, so weekends, school holidays, public holidays, and strong-weather days can change the experience.
